Serbian sash, 1875-1910 dyed and woven wool with braided fringe, 217 x 11 cm gift of Minnie Eaton Travis, 1926
Catherine made special mention of Serbian clothing in at least two of her missionary reports. She delighted in the women's "bright-coloured handwoven striped skirts, linen blouses and kerchiefs," as well as their stockings, knitted “from yarn spun and dyed by themselves and [worn with] their leather home-made sandals."
Catherine sent numerous artefacts home to New Brunswick while she was overseas on missionary duty. In many cases it was her sister, Minnie Eaton Travis, who actually delivered the objects to the Museum.
